daddy.

June 21, 2010
I have been incredibly blessed in this life.  Blessed in so many ways, but today, I’m thinking about my father.
It’s hard for me to imagine my life without my parents.  They truly have shaped me and taught me so much by modeling Christ’s love.  It affects everything they say and do, grace and humility seem to flow from them.  They’ve taught, disciplined, encouraged, and most of all loved me in ways that can only be explained by the work of God in their own lives.  And I’ve watched, and experienced, and I’ve learned.
My dad is a natural leader, compassionate, wise, and humble, qualities that have the tendency to draw people to him.  And I’m thankful that he knows when to be weak, so that the power of God is at work through him, bringing ultimate glory to the Lord.  He’s taught me the importance of knowing and dwelling in scripture, and most of all the Gospel, which should always be the center of our lives.
I am certainly blessed.
But the truth is, even without these two wonderful people in my life, God would still be God, and He would still be good.  I have lots of friends whose parents don’t know the Lord, or don’t even have parents present in their lives.  It breaks my heart, and I can’t understand why I have had it so good.  Then I have to remember that our Heavenly Father wants to fill up what is lacking in our lives.  He alone is truly faithful, and only His love is everlasting.  And it is so encouraging to have people in our lives who model that love, but only God can sustain and satisfy.  He is the source of all strength, only He can provide true comfort and peace and rest.
So today I’m thankful for two daddies, the one that knows and loves the Lord and does his best to point me to Him, and the God that made me, saved me, and will never stop loving me.
